On April 27, 1986, all the people of Pripyat were evacuated in a few hours. They left all their belongings, hoping to return soon. 30 years have passed, but many of their things are still there. Today’s Pripyat looks the same as it was in 1986: signs and slogans of Soviet times hang on the buildings retaining the spirit of that era.   • The New Safe Confinement is the world’s largest land-based moving structure and the most complex technological system that reliably protects the entire world from the radioactive masses that lie under the destroyed reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
  • The “Chernobyl 2” secret military object and the “DUGA-1” giant radar which was to monitor the launch of American intercontinental ballistic missiles in the times of the USSR. During our tour to Chernobyl you will see the preserved part of the Soviet missile defense system.

Nature abhors a vacuum. People left the Exclusion Zone in 1986, but hundreds of animal and bird species, including those listed in the Red Book, inhabit this territory now. Here you can see black cranes, eagle owls, elks, dears, wolves, as well as Przewalski’s horses and even bears and lynxes. In 2017, the Chernobyl Biosphere Reserve was established on the territory of the Exclusion Zone.

Important information:

  • Take your passport with you, as there is passport control on the border of the exclusion zone;
  • Dress code: no shorts, no sandals, T-Shirts. You are advised to wear a jacket or a shirt with long sleeves, trousers and boots which fully cover your feet;
  • Minimum age to enter Chernobyl zone is 18 years;

We did the beer tour in Kiev. Five beers in five different bars for two of us and our guide. That was a great chance to hang out with some locals, get to know the history and city a bit more, all while enjoying some of the unique local beers you can only find in Kiev. Highly recommend taking a tour with Wonders & Holidays. I learned so much about Ukrainian history that I wouldn't have on my own and the tour guides feel like friends (rather than just guides). I went on the Kiev in 180 minutes sightseeing tour with Igor and it was such a great experience. He was an excellent guide not only did he explain the history so well, but also answered any related or unrelated questions about Kiev and Ukraine.
