Weekend in Poltava


During an exciting two-day tour throughout colorful Poltava Region, you will discover the sights of Poltava, a city with more than 1,100-year history. You will see unusual monuments, stroll through beautiful parks and visit unique museums, including the Poltava Battle Field State Reserve. It is the only historical and cultural reserve in Ukraine which is part of the International Association of Museums of Arms and Military History.

You will also visit Dykanka, a town known due to Nikolai Gogol’s set of novels Evenings on a Farm Near Dykanka. And in the Ukrainian pottery capital Opishnia, you’ll master one of the oldest crafts at the pottery master class.

Tour highlights:
Day 1

Poltava


On the first day, you’ll go on Poltava sightseeing tour. You will visit the unique Central Korpusnyi Park, which is sun-shaped (with the rays of the streets).

The most famous city museum is the Museum of the Poltava Battle. You will see the 18th century weapons and samples of military uniform there.

You will also visit the historic estate of the famous Ukrainian writer Ivan Kotliarevskyi, as well as take a picture near the Monument to the Poltava Dumpling (favorite national dish) and near the White Bower, offering a magnificent view.

Day 2

Dykanka-Opіshnia


he next day you will timetravel, because you’ll go to the historical village of Dykanka. Famous Kochubei oaks, which are about 300 years old and more than 20 meters high, grow here. You will also see the Triumphal Arch and the St. Nicholas Church built in 1794.

Then you will go to Opishnia which is the capital of Ukrainian pottery. You’ll admire the works of local craftsmen and see how pottery is made at a special master show.

We did the beer tour in Kiev. Five beers in five different bars for two of us and our guide. That was a great chance to hang out with some locals, get to know the history and city a bit more, all while enjoying some of the unique local beers you can only find in Kiev.
